MATERIAL
100% extra fine merino wool (260gsm), exclusive of trims.
In wool ‘walk,’ the structure of the wool fibers is unaltered (non-superwashed), preserving their natural remarkable properties in entirety. The intact outer scales repel both dirt and water droplets, but allow moisture vapor from the body to pass into the core of the fiber. The fibers can absorb 30% of their weight in moisture vapor without feeling wet, keeping the wearer feeling dry. The unaltered fibers also maintain their crimp, contributing to the fabric’s ability to effectively trap air, keeping the wearer warm. The fabric fulling process imparts durability, and further contributes to the fabric’s ability to trap air and keep the wearer warm.
Given the unaltered nature of the non-superwashed wool fibers, please take care to follow the garment care instructions.
CARE
Wool ‘walk’ requires very little cleaning as the wool fibers naturally prevent the growth of odor-causing bacteria. If some odor does arise, simply air out the garment. The odor will dissipate over the course of a few days. To remove a stain or residue, spot clean with a damp cloth and small dab of no-rinse wool wash. Wear with a washable underlayer to prevent body oils from permeating the fabric, requiring harsher all-over cleaning.
When harsher all-over cleaning is needed, dry clean only. If the fabric feels coarser afterward, hang garment on a suit hanger with contoured shoulders and spray all over with a mixture of water and lanolin (we recommend Eucalan) to lightly condition the fibers. Leave to hang dry. Do not submerge the garment in water, and do not tumble dry.
To help prevent moth holes, hang the accompanying cedar block with the garment. Cedar oil is a natural moth repellent. Lightly sand to refresh the scent.
REPAIR
If moth holes do occur, use the accompanying spare fibers to repair by felting. Be sure to use thin felting needles, suitable for the extra fine merino wool fibers.
